Why pH 5.5 keeps coming up
Hair has an acidic outer layer — the acid mantle — sitting at roughly pH 5.5. Alkaline cleansers push above it, which swells the cuticle open and lets moisture escape. That is the mechanism behind most dryness, and it is why every Beaver formula is balanced to the same figure. Products tested on sensitive and problematic scalps, not just healthy ones.
